Speech-to-Text

Talk. It types.

Hold Fn and speak — your words appear as text wherever your cursor is. Emails, docs, code comments, Slack messages. Yaps turns your voice into text, right on your Mac, without sending a single byte to the cloud.

Typing holds you back

You think at speaking speed but type at a fraction of it
Built-in macOS dictation requires an internet connection and sends audio to Apple
Third-party dictation tools charge monthly fees for basic transcription
Most speech-to-text apps miss punctuation, capitalization, and formatting
Switching between keyboard and mouse breaks your creative flow
RSI and repetitive strain injuries get worse with heavy typing

Dictation sets you free

Speak naturally and watch your words appear in real time — up to 4x faster than typing
All speech recognition happens on your Mac. Your voice data never leaves your device
Yaps includes dictation in every plan, including the free tier
Auto-punctuation, smart capitalization, and paragraph formatting built in
Hold Fn anywhere — no app switching, no setup, no interruption
Give your hands a break without giving up productivity

How dictation actually works

No setup wizards. No training period. Just hold Fn and talk.

Hold Fn to Dictate

Press and hold the Fn key anywhere on your Mac. Start speaking. Release when you're done. Your words appear right where your cursor is — no clicks, no menus, no context switching.

Auto-Punctuation

Yaps listens to the cadence and structure of your speech and adds periods, commas, question marks, and paragraph breaks automatically. You can also say punctuation out loud if you prefer.

Works Offline

The speech recognition model runs entirely on your Mac. No internet connection needed. Dictate on a plane, at a cabin, or anywhere your Wi-Fi can't reach.

Works in Every App

Yaps injects text at your cursor position system-wide. It works in Mail, Notes, VS Code, Slack, Google Docs, your terminal — anywhere you can type.

English Dictation

Yaps currently supports English for speech-to-text dictation, optimized for accuracy with natural speech patterns, technical terms, and proper nouns. All processed locally on your device with no cloud dependency.

Smart Vocabulary

Technical terms, proper nouns, and domain-specific jargon are handled well out of the box. The local model adapts to context so you spend less time correcting transcription errors.

Built for people who think out loud

Dictation fits into any workflow where you'd rather speak than type.

01

Writers and Authors

Draft chapters, blog posts, and articles at the speed of thought. Many writers find that dictation produces more natural, conversational prose.

I drafted my entire novel outline in one afternoon using Yaps.

02

Developers

Write commit messages, code comments, documentation, and PR descriptions without taking your hands off your train of thought.

Fix the null check in the auth middleware and add a retry with exponential backoff.

03

Email and Messaging

Blast through your inbox by speaking your replies instead of typing them out. Yaps handles the formatting so your emails still look professional.

Thanks for the update, Sarah. Let's sync on this Thursday at 2pm.

04

Note-Taking

Capture meeting notes, lecture summaries, and research ideas in real time. Just hold Fn, speak, and let Yaps handle the transcription.

05

Accessibility

For users with RSI, carpal tunnel, or motor impairments, dictation is not a convenience — it's a necessity. Yaps gives you a reliable, private way to use your Mac by voice.

06

Medical and Legal Professionals

Dictate patient notes, case summaries, and reports without worrying about sensitive data leaving your device. Privacy is built into the architecture.

Hear from people like you.

I write code comments and documentation by voice now. It sounds weird until you try it — then you wonder why you ever typed them out. The offline processing is a huge deal for me since I work on client codebases with strict data policies.
