Text-based files work best. Scanned PDFs, DRM-protected books and complicated layouts may need OCR or a little cleanup before narration.

Turn an EPUB or PDF into chapter audio

An ebook becomes much easier to use when you can listen to one chapter while walking, commuting or resting your eyes. Drop an EPUB, PDF, TXT or Markdown file into Yaps and it finds the chapters or pages, then lets you make a local audio clip from the section you choose.

This is intentionally a chapter-sized audiobook converter. You see the chapter title and text before pressing Read this chapter, hear the first sentences while the rest is generated, and get a WAV you can replay or keep. There is no silent upload queue and no need to wait for an entire book before you hear anything.

EPUB chapter boundaries make better audiobook clips

EPUB is the cleanest input because its spine and content documents already describe the reading order. Yaps uses those boundaries to create a chapter list, so a long novel or course book becomes a set of manageable clips rather than one enormous audio file.

PDFs work when they contain selectable text, but their page layout can put columns, footnotes or captions in an unexpected order. A single-column book or report usually narrates well. Scanned pages need OCR before they contain words that a browser can read.

Private audiobook generation in your browser

The book is parsed from your local file and the speech is synthesised on your device. The voice model is the part that downloads on first use; your EPUB or PDF is not posted to a conversion service. That makes the workflow suitable for manuscripts, course reading, research papers and books you do not want to hand to an unknown online converter.

After the model is cached, a chapter can be read without a connection. The first model download is roughly 145MB, and browsers may clear it later, so the initial visit is the one that needs patience or Wi-Fi.

Choose a voice, language and chapter

Four voices and 31 languages are available from the same local speech engine. Set the language to match the book before generating audio, then choose the chapter from the list. You can switch chapters without parsing the book again and generate a different clip whenever you are ready.

The chapter preview is part of the safety net: read a few lines with your eyes before trusting a complex PDF's order. If a heading or footnote is misplaced, edit the source or use a cleaner text-based edition before making a recording you plan to share.

Download a chapter WAV, then build a larger audiobook elsewhere

Download WAV saves a clean mono chapter file named after the book and section. WAV is a deliberately simple browser export; you can convert it to MP3 or M4B later if you need smaller files or audiobook packaging.

A complete audiobook is more than a folder of clips: it needs chapter metadata, pause rules, cover art and a resumable queue. This free page proves the local reading experience and gives you useful chapter audio now; the Yaps app is the better home for a complete long-form narration workflow.

How to convert an ebook to audio

  1. Choose an ebook file

Drop an EPUB, PDF, TXT or Markdown file into the reader, or click Choose a file. The file is parsed in your browser and is not uploaded.

  2. Wait for the chapters

Yaps reads the book structure and shows the chapter or page list. EPUBs usually provide the cleanest boundaries.

  3. Pick a voice and language

Choose one of the four voices and set the language your book is written in. The model downloads once and your browser can cache it.

  4. Read a chapter

Select a chapter and press Read this chapter. Playback starts as soon as the first piece is ready while the remaining text continues generating.

  5. Keep the audio

Listen in the built-in player or press Download WAV to save the finished chapter locally. Repeat for another section whenever you are ready.

Вопросы

Is this ebook to audio converter free?

Yes. There is no account, per-book charge, watermark or daily conversion allowance. The speech model runs in your browser, so the page can let you make chapter clips without charging for server minutes.

Does my EPUB or PDF get uploaded?

No. The file is parsed locally and the chapter audio is generated there too. The voice model downloads once, but your book text is not sent to a processing server.

Can I convert an EPUB into an audiobook?

You can make and download WAV audio chapter by chapter. A complete M4B package with metadata and a reading queue is better handled by the long-form Yaps app.

Can I read a PDF ebook aloud?

Yes, when the PDF contains selectable text. Single-column pages work best; scans, magazine spreads and dense footnotes may need OCR or cleanup first.

What ebook formats are supported?

The reader supports EPUB, PDF, TXT and Markdown text files. DRM-protected books are not opened, and EPUB is the best format when you want clean chapter boundaries.

Can I choose the narration language?

Yes. Choose from 31 languages and four voices. Set the language to match the spelling in the book before generating a chapter.

Can I download MP3?

The browser exports WAV first because it can write that format locally without a heavy encoder. Convert the chapter WAV to MP3 or M4B in an audio editor when you need a smaller or packaged file.
