How much faster do you talk?

Type one short passage, then say the same passage out loud. You will see both speeds, scored on the words you actually got right.

The passage

The best ideas rarely arrive when you are staring at a blank page. They turn up while you are walking, talking, or explaining something to a friend. Writing them down is the slow part, and that is the part worth fixing.

The clock starts on your first keystroke.

How is speaking speed measured?

The tool transcribes what you actually said with a speech model running in your browser, then divides the words you got right by how long you spoke. It does not simply count the words in the passage, so rushing through and slurring words will not inflate the number.

Is my voice recorded or uploaded?

Your microphone audio is transcribed locally on your own machine and then discarded. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored.

What is a normal speaking speed?

Conversational English runs around 130 to 160 words per minute. Audiobook narration sits nearer 150. Most people type between 40 and 70 words per minute, which is why speaking is usually about three times faster.

Does the accuracy score matter?

Yes. Both halves are scored on the words you actually produced, so a fast run full of mistakes will not beat a steady accurate one. That mirrors real work, where typos and mumbling both cost you time later.

Write at the speed you think.

Hold one key and talk, in any app on your machine.
